ROME, Ga.—It all came down to the final match at No. 6 singles, and Oglethorpe's Noah George came through in the clutch to send the Stormy Petrels to a 4-3 win in the Southern Athletic Association opener Friday evening at Berry. Oglethorpe's women also made the trip to face the Vikings but lost 7-0.
George capped off a sweep of the bottom three singles slots to get Oglethorpe the win. He was one of a pair of matches to go to a third set, winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in his first three-setter of the year. Oglethorpe led 3-1 in the overall tally before Berry turned in its second point on court three then tied things up with a three-set win on court one. This set the stage for George, who came from behind, including a 7-5 win in the second set.
Oglethorpe also earned the doubles point, as Sam Wasko and Jefferson Page started the day on a positive note, winning their set 6-4. Continuing the trend, Figge Pernfors and Kellen Simmons won their doubles match as well, 7-5.
