Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Story by Ava Kelly

Men’s tennis snaps five-match winning streak in close road loss

MEMPHIS—This weekend, both Oglethorpe tennis teams headed to Hendrix, where the men's team pulled out a win 4-2 while the women lost 4-0. They then went to Rhodes, where both teams suffered losses, the men 4-2 and the women 7-0.

Oglethorpe's men's match against Hendrix saw the Stormy Petrels extend their winning streak to five matches, but the loss to Rhodes snapped it.

Oglethorpe started strong against Hendrix, winning all three doubles. Sam Wasko and Jefferson Page won 6-4 in the No. 1 spot, followed by Kellen Simmons and Figge Pernfors' win 6-2, and finally, Zack Raymond and Callum Searle with a 6-1 win at No. 3.

For singles, Kellen Simmons went to a third set and narrowly lost 6-1, 5-7, 5-7. Jefferson Page managed a win in the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-3. Figge Pernfors and Bailey Raymond had big wins in their singles after Pernfors won 6-2, 6-1 and Raymond won 6-0, 6-1. The Stormy Petrels won the match 4-2 with B. Raymond earning the clinching point.

Against Rhodes, the men's team did not have similar luck. After the doubles did not go their way, they had to move to the singles and only came away with two wins. Jefferson Page battled back in his singles match and won it after going to a third set 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. B. Raymond also had a strong singles effort with a 6-3, 6-3 win, but it was not enough, and the Stormy Petrels fell 4-2.

For the women against Hendrix, Grace Elsevier and Mia Geveke fought hard in their doubles but lost 6-1. They were followed by Apsana Raj and Abigail Hudson, who also lost 6-1.

In the match against Rhodes, it was another similar result with the Lynx taking all seven points, including the last three singles matches which played a pro set due to the match already being decided.
