MEMPHIS—The Oglethorpe baseball team headed in to the Southern Athletic Association tournament on a four-game winning streak, but a pair of losses in a doubleheader against Rhodes saw the Stormy Petrels end their season. Oglethorpe dropped the first game 11-1 and the second game 9-3, the latter despite holding a 3-2 lead at the stretch.
Cooper Krause played a huge part in Oglethorpe's near victory in game two, as the Petrels looked to even the series in the best-of-three elimination series. He drove in the game's first run on a single to left field in the top of the first, put Oglethorpe ahead 2-1 with another single to left field in the third, then gave Oglethorpe a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
In each case, Rhodes had the answer, including one in the form of a three-run seventh and four-run eighth to take the lead for good.
The Petrels ended the season 21-20 overall.
