RALEIGH, N.C. - Oglethorpe fell 3-0 to Gordon and Virginia Wesleyan in the first day of William Peace's Raleigh Invitational on Friday. Despite the losses, a few Petrels made some personal wins.
Match One vs. Gordon
Gracie Sims and Camdyn George led in kills, Abby Wheeler made 14 digs, and Ashlynn Stephens had three service aces.
The Scots gained an early lead in the first set, and although the Petrels fought back, Gordon won it 25-22. The second set was more evenly matched, until a lucky streak at the end gave Gordon a 25-20 win. The third and final set started strong with a kill and an ace by Alise Mayers plus a kill from George. However, this adrenaline did not last, and Gordon stole the game for a 3-0 win.
Match Two vs. Virginia Wesleyan
Stephens made 10 kills, Autumn Lilly had 27 assists, and Wheeler and Sims made 11 digs each.
The Marlins dominated the beginnings of the first two sets, creating major leads that handed over the first two sets.
