ATLANTA- A pair of goals from Ethan Martinez and Nick Krull led the Oglethorpe men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over LaGrange at home Thursday night.
A stalemate first half was spearheaded by Sebastian Lewis, who picked up three saves to keep the Panthers shutout. Oglethorpe outshot LaGrange in the first half with seven shots to their five.
Martinez broke open the scoring in the 45th minute when he received a through ball from Nathan Leveque and took a shot that was originally deflected by LaGrange goalkeeper Braeden Hayes. The deflection was not enough as the ball then rolled in to give the Petrels their first goal and a 1-0 lead.
Soon after, but after the game bridged into the second half, Gustavo Canas drove the ball into the penalty box and was fouled in the 47th minute. The Petrels were awarded a penalty kick and Krull went to the mark. Krull winded up and shot the ball to the left of Hayes to give the Petrels the 2-0 advantage.
The Panthers only took two more shots in an attempt to equalize the score, but the Petrels kept them at bay and secured the 2-0 victory.
