JACKSON, Miss- The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team secured its final regular-season win over Millsaps on their senior day in Jackson, Mississippi. The victory helped the Stormy Petrels finish tied for second in the Southern Athletic Association's final standings.
Keimarya Rivera led with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Malia Melton followed with 13 points.
Melton got the Petrels on the board early with a layup. An early 10-point lead from the Majors left Oglethorpe looking for a response. Marlie Battle and Sheraton Foster helped the Stormy Petrels go into the halftime break only down five.
A back-and-forth third quarter featured close scoring with the largest lead being five when Rivera scored a jumper. A 3-pointer from Battle kickstarted an 11-0 run that pushed the Petrels forward 53-42. The Majors ran out of time, and the Petrels maintained their lead and closed the regular season with a 59-53 win.
