ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe women's basketball team is riding high heading into the Southern Athletic Association tournament after capping the regular season with four straight wins.
The Stormy Petrels climbed to a share of second place in the final SAA standings and after tiebreakers secured the No. 4 seed, where they will face host Berry in the opening round which starts Thursday.
Tournament Details
- Oglethorpe will face Berry on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 12 p.m.
- Berry is set to host, with all games taking place at Berry's Cage Center.
- Centre, Millsaps, Oglethorpe and Berry all finished 9-5 in the SAA during the regular season, each two games back of regular-season champion Trinity.
- Trinity and Centre hold the top two seeds, each getting a bye in the opening round of the six-team tournament.
Berry Preview
- Oglethorpe and Berry split the regular season, with both teams winning on their home court.
- Oglethorpe won 48-44 in Dorough Field House on December 3 before losing 71-49 in the Cage Center on January 23.
- Jaden Winfrey (14), Sheraton Foster (11) and Marlie Battle (10) finished in double figures to lead Oglethorpe in the win. Keimarya Rivera (14) and Malia Melton (13) led the way for Oglethorpe in the road loss. Â
- Oglethorpe and Berry have faced 31 times all-time, including three times in the postseason. Oglethorpe leads that series 2-1 but Berry won the last postseason meeting in 2023.
- This will be the fourth time in the last nine seasons that Oglethorpe and Berry met in the postseason.
With a Win
- The winner of Oglethorpe/Berry faces top-seeded Trinity in the semifinals.
- Oglethorpe lost 77-71 at Trinity on January 9 but bounced back with an 85-70 win at home on February 13. The victory started Oglethorpe's current four-game winning streak.
- The winner of that semifinal game will advance to the title game, set to take place Saturday at 3 p.m.
