PARIS, Ky.—Sophomores Dounia Bezzari and Macie Stefano led the Oglethorpe women's golf team to a top-five finish in the 2026-27 season-opening event Tuesday at Houston Oaks Golf Course. The high note to begin the new campaign was also highlighted by an ace from junior Madison Davis and an eagle from senior Abrianna Carstens.
Bezzari (75-80) took ninth and Stefano (79-78) took 11th as the Stormy Petrels put three in the top 18 and five in the top 30. McKazlyn Payne followed next in 18th while Carstens landed 25th and Davis landed 30th.
Davis' ace came on the 142-yard par 3 second hole to move her to 1 under for the round. She finished with a 77. Carstens eagled the par 5 first hole.
Six Petrels made an improvement from day one to day two, including Davis who fired 10 strokes better the second day and Payne who shot six strokes better, also with a 77 on day two.
As a team, Oglethorpe was 10 strokes out of third place and 13 strokes off the lead, shooting 320-312. Next behind the Petrels was Southern Athletic Association foe Berry who shot 318-320 to finish in sixth, six strokes back.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe ranked second in the field in both par 3 scoring and par 4 scoring.
- The Petrels also ranked third with 87 pars.
- Freshman Hailey Moffett finished second overall in par 3 scoring at 1 over par, just a stroke off the lead. She also was seventh overall in birdies with five.
- Payne ranked seventh in par 4 scoring while Bezzari and Carstens ranked seventh in par 5 scoring.
- The tournament saw a total of five eagles, with two coming from Stormy Petrels.
