SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels faced a pair of challenging Southern Athletic Association opponents over the weekend, taking on Southwestern University and No. 3 Trinity University in back-to-back conference matches. Oglethorpe dropped both contests, falling to Southwestern 3-0 on Friday before being defeated by Trinity 3-0 on Saturday. 

The Petrels continued to battle throughout the weekend, with Oglethorpe showing its strongest offensive stretches against both opponents while several players contributed across the stat sheet. 

Southwestern 3, Oglethorpe 0 

Oglethorpe opened the weekend against Southwestern, falling 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14. The Petrels finished the match with 25 kills, 22 assists, 37 digs and three blocks. Oglethorpe also recorded one service ace. 

Aubrey Hill paced the Petrels offensively with six kills, while Sarah Johnson followed with five. Madison Thompson, Callie Simmons and Jane Pennington each added four kills. 

Lauryn Frazier directed the Oglethorpe offense with 13 assists, while Ava Adams added seven. Frazier also contributed eight digs, matching Annabelle Turnbull for the team lead. Abby Wheeler finished with seven digs and recorded Oglethorpe's lone service ace. 

At the net, Toki Ingram led the Petrels with two blocks, while Hill and Thompson each added one. 

Oglethorpe opened the match by trading points with Southwestern early, with the Petrels staying within a few points through the opening portion of the first set. The Petrels reached the 10-point mark at 10-4 before Southwestern extended its advantage. 

The second set featured another competitive opening stretch. Oglethorpe battled to keep pace and reached 10 points before Southwestern created separation late in the set. 

The Petrels continued to fight in the third set, with Hill, Thompson, Johnson and Simmons among those contributing kills during the final frame. Oglethorpe reached 14 points before Southwestern closed out the match. 

Trinity 3, Oglethorpe 0 

Oglethorpe closed the weekend against Trinity, falling 25-8, 25-18 and 25-17. 

Madison Thompson led the Petrels with six kills and hit .286, while Sarah Johnson added five kills. Aubrey Hill recorded four kills on eight attacks and posted a team-best .375 hitting percentage. 

Lauryn Frazier once again directed the offense, finishing with eight assists while also leading the Petrels with nine digs. Abby Wheeler added eight digs, while Ava Adams recorded six assists and five digs. 

Thompson also made an impact defensively with two blocks, while Callie Simmons and Toki Ingram each recorded two total blocks. As a team, Oglethorpe finished with 21 kills, 18 assists, 35 digs and three blocks. 

After Trinity controlled the opening set, Oglethorpe responded with a stronger second frame. The Petrels recorded 11 kills in the set, their highest total of the match, and improved their offensive production. 

Oglethorpe continued to compete in the third set, where Hill and Thompson provided offensive production and the Petrels stayed within striking distance. Oglethorpe reached 17 points before Trinity closed out the match. 

Trinity finished with 36 kills compared to Oglethorpe's 21 and held a .258 hitting percentage. The Tigers also recorded 15 service aces and seven blocks, while Oglethorpe finished with three blocks. 

Despite the two losses, the weekend provided another opportunity for the Petrels to gain experience against SAA competition as conference play continues.
