Petrels sweep Huntingdon, improve to 2-0

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels continued their strong start to the 2026 season Friday afternoon, sweeping Huntingdon College 3-0 and improving to 2-0 on the season.

Oglethorpe controlled the match from start to finish, earning set victories of 26-24, 27-25 and 25-21. The Petrels finished with 40 kills compared to Huntingdon's 32 while also holding advantages in assists, 38-30, and digs, 46-38.

Madison Thompson and Sarah Johnson led the Petrels offensively with nine kills apiece, while Aubrey Hill added five. Thompson was particularly efficient at the net, hitting .533 with nine kills on 15 attacks while also recording a block.

Oglethorpe's defense and serving game also played a key role in the sweep. Adrianne Ryan led the Petrels with two service aces, while Ava Adams also recorded two. Abby Wheeler added an ace, and Oglethorpe finished with six aces as a team.

At the net, Toki Ingram paced the Petrels with two blocks, while Hill and Thompson each added one. Adams led Oglethorpe's offense with 17 assists, followed by Lauryn Frazier with 16.

The Petrels battled through a competitive opening set, with Huntingdon taking an early lead before Oglethorpe rallied to even the score at 12-12. Ryan then sparked the Petrels with a service ace, helping Oglethorpe take control. After Huntingdon regained a 19-15 advantage, the Petrels responded with a late surge, tying the set at 19-19 before taking the lead and closing out the set 26-24.

Oglethorpe carried that momentum into the final two sets, pulling away from Huntingdon to secure the 3-0 sweep and remain unbeaten on the early season.
