2025 - GOAL: state-of-the-art sound system, six new basketball goals, and refreshed branding

The Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels Volleyball, Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball programs are thrilled to welcome much-needed upgrades to the historic Dorough Field House!

With our conference expanding and competition intensifying, it’s time to take our facility to the next level.

To ensure our student-athletes compete at their best, we’re investing in critical enhancements, including a state-of-the-art sound system, six new basketball goals, and refreshed branding that honors Oglethorpe Athletics' legacy of success while embracing the ever-evolving Southern Athletic Association. Some of our current equipment has been in use for nearly half a century—these upgrades will ensure a championship-caliber environment for our student-athletes and fans alike.

Join us in strengthening our program for the future—your support makes all the difference!

The facility was completed in 1960 and named after R.E. Dorough, who was an Oglethorpe trustee for many years. A stormy petrel sculpture by artist Duane Hanson is mounted on the outside of the building. The structure underwent a major renovation in 1979 where the field house saw many changes. In 2015, more renovations were made including the famous "blacktop" court. The capacity of the Dorough gym is 900 people usually filled with students, parents, professors, and more.
