Tom Rentenbach joined Oglethorpe's athletics staff as assistant coach for the track & field program in 2018. Rentenbach coaches the vertical jumps (pole vault and high jump) group as well as decathlon and heptathlon.

While at Oglethorpe, Rentenbach has coached multiple Southern Athletic Association Conference Champions and All-Conference performers in high jump, pole vault, long jump and javelin.

Rentenbach attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and competed in the pole vault, 110m hurdles and the decathlon. Rentenbach is a runner-up Atlantic Coast Conference champion in the decathlon and named All-ACC first team in decathlon. From Knoxville, Tennessee, Rentenbach was three-time All-State in track & field, runner-up Tennessee state champion in 300m hurdles, and two-time All-State in decathlon.

Rentenbach earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a B.B.A. in accounting at Oglethorpe, and a Master of Accountancy at Auburn University. Rentenbach is a USA Track & Field (USATF) certified Level 1 coach, holds a USTFCCCA Technical Certification, and is a USATF certified official.
