BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Stormy Petrels defeated Birmingham Southern 94-82 on Sunday evening to extend their Southern Athletic Association record to 6-1, the best in the league.

It was a close start, but with 12 minutes left in the first half, Oglethorpe used an 11-0 run to extend a one-point lead to 12. Birmingham Southern was not backing down and got the game back within two, but the Petrels led by eight at halftime with the score at 44-36. Oglethorpe led for the rest of the game.
"We played really well today," said Head Coach
Philip Ponder. "When we shoot it like that, not too many teams will beat us. We had great energy again today. I feel like we are starting to find a groove, or at least I hope so. Road sweeps are always huge. Now we are looking forward to four straight home games and protecting home court."
Oglethorpe connected on 19 3-point attempts in the win, getting perimeter scoring from six players. This included four or more from four players, with Ezigbo leading the way with five made threes. Altogether, they were 51 percent from 3-point territory and 47 percent from the field.
Up next, the Petrels will play Millsaps for the second time this season on Friday at home. The game is set to start at 8 p.m. They will face Birmingham Southern again next Sunday at home. Oglethorpe is 6-2 at home this season.
