JACKSON, Miss. — The Stormy Petrels earned their sixth consecutive Southern Athletic Association win Friday night, 75-56, against Millsaps. Oglethorpe maintains the best record in the league, now 7-1.
Dimetri Chambers led the Petrels with a solid 32 points, including 17 that came from the charity stripe. This was unmatched on either side of the court and Chambers' 37th career game scoring 20 or more and 10th career game scoring 30 or more.
Oglethorpe was in command for the entirety of the game. The Petrels were up by 11 at halftime and continued to spread the gap in the second half of the game to secure the win.
"Tonight was pretty ugly," said Head Coach
Philip Ponder. "We were out of sync the entire night and forced some things on offense, but our defense won us the game tonight. Like the saying goes, an ugly win beats a pretty loss, but we will definitely need to play better moving forward."
Behind Chambers' 32 points,
Jack Murrah also made it to double figures with 10, and
Lane Foster had a solid game with eight points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Up next, the Petrels play Birmingham Southern on Sunday at 3 p.m. Oglethorpe topped Birmingham Southern 94-82 last weekend on the road behind 20-point scoring from Chambers,
Will Koch and
Uba Ezigbo.
