ATLANTA - After a slow start, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels obliterated the Scotties of Agnes Scott College with an impressive final score of 61-28.
Â
Eleven Petrels scored this game, with six of those players totaling at least six points. Sophomore
Rose Dolmovich was the only player of the game to end with points in the double digits, with ten.
Â
"It's always great to get a W," said Head Coach
Alex Richey. "After the first five minutes of the game, our defensive intensity really picked up which allowed us to take control of the game. Offensively, I am really enjoying watching the ball movement steadily improve from where we were early in the season to this point as we constantly talk about sacrificing a good shot for a great shot. Lastly, I was excited to be able to get some much needed experience for all of our players in order to help their growth on the court, which we hope will help us in the second half of the conference slate right around the corner."
Â
Although the beginning of the first quarter seemed like it would be a clean game for Agnes Scott, the Petrels jumped into action and tied the score at 11-11 in the midst of a 10-2 run. Although the first quarter ended in the Scotties' favor at 13-12, the Stormy Petrels began their crusade.
Â
Oglethorpe only allowed Agnes Scott to score two points in the second quarter, with the Petrels going on an impressive 21-2 run.
Â
In just the first half of the game, Oglethorpe went on a combined run of 31-4 and more than doubled Agnes Scott's score for 33-15 by halftime.
Â
The trend continued as the Petrels held the Scotties to six points in the middle 20 minutes, where Agnes Scott made most of the points that would make up their final score.
Â
The third and fourth quarters were in the bag for Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels stayed lengths ahead of the Scotties, staying at least 20 points ahead for the entire fourth quarter. Although Agnes Scott made the last point of the game with a layup in the last 30 seconds, it was in vain as the final score was a hammering 61-28.
Â
Up next for Oglethorpe is another home game in Dorough Field House on Friday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m., as the Petrels once again face the Millsaps Majors.
