Petrels suffer four-set loss at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark.— After a 3-0 victory in yesterday's Southern Athletic Association matchup at Rhodes, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell to the Warriors of Hendrix College 3-1. The first two sets went to the Warriors both my a margin of 25-19. The third set was the lone win on the day for Oglethorpe as the Petrels outscored the Warriors 25-21. Ultimately, Hendrix would come back in the fourth set to narrowly escape the Petrels 26-24.

Sophomore Gabbi Phillips made an impact all over the court and stat sheet for the Petrels. The sophomore setter recorded four kills, 31 assists, two service aces, two blocks and 11 digs.

To no surprise, it was Oglethorpe's upperclassmen efforts that would lead the offense against Hendrix.  Junior Ellie Alfonso totaled the most kills for the Petrels with 13 on the day, followed by junior Cate Rosenthal and senior Jackie Schner each adding nine kills apiece.

Six Petrels made their way into the kill column. Phillips and Alfonso led the team with two kills each. Rosenthal, Emelia Sengstock, Sophia St. Clair and Legacy Guider all added one service ace and totaled eight kills for Oglethorpe.

On the defensive side of the net, Sengstock and Kaitlyn Bassett led with five and four blocks, respectively.  Sofia Cendoya's 31 digs were the most for a player on either team in the matchup. Alfonso added 15 digs herself, while Guider and Phillips each recorded 11.
