Volleyball splits season series with Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. -- After defeating the Majors of Millsaps College three sets to none earlier this season, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell three sets to one Saturday afternoon in Mississippi to the hosting Majors.

Millsaps came out strong in the first set with a 25-17 victory which would be the largest score differential on the day. The next three sets would prove to be much closer as the set that followed resulted in a 25-20 Millsaps win. Oglethorpe's lone set victory came in the third set edging past the Majors by a margin of 25-23. Ultimately Millsaps would end the match in the fourth set just squeezing by the Petrels with a 25-22 win.

Senior Jackie Schner's game-high 16 kills marked her 17th match out of just 20 on the season where the star outside hitter recorded 10 or more kills in a match. She also posted 15 digs.

Ellie Alfonso, a junior from Winder, Georgia, added 10 kills with two assists, 16 digs and a service ace.

As she has done all season long, sophomore setter Gabbi Phillips was all over the stat sheet as she recorded 34 assists, five kills, seven digs, and a service ace. Other contributions from the upperclassmen were felt on the offensive side of the net with junior Cate Rosenthal and senior Emelia Sengstock each adding seven kills apiece.
