BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Panthers came out hot winning both of the first two sets, though the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels answered with three consecutive wins in the final sets of the match to come away with an exciting upset Sunday afternoon in the final Southern Athletic Association match of the season.Â
Birmingham Southern's two wins came by a margin of 25-22 followed by 25-10. The Petrels were able to rally back after the second set with a 25-20 and a 25-22 win in the third and fourth sets. Oglethorpe would go on to win the final set 15-9 after a 6-0 run late in the match.
The Petrels offense put on another electric performance with a killer upperclassmen effort. Jackie Schner, a senior from Boca Raton, Florida, posted a career-high 21 kills, while juniors Cate Rosenthal and Ellie Alfonso added 10 and 16 kills apiece.  Sophomore Gabbi Phillips continued to showcase impressive numbers with 48 assists, 16 digs, two service aces and two blocks.
Oglethorpe now sits at 13-9 (7-7 SAA) with the SAA slate all wrapped up.

The Petrels will travel south down Peachtree Road to compete in the Emory Invitational Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29, closing with nationally-ranked Emory University at 4 p.m.
