Volleyball falls to Washington & Lee after three close sets

ATLANTA — In their first match of the Emory Invitational tournament, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell to the Generals of Washington & Lee University in three close sets. While the Petrels could not find the win column tonight, they did not lose a set by more than five points. The first set was a Generals win 25-20, followed by a 25-23 win in the second set. In the third and final set, Washington & Lee was able to push past the Petrels once again by a margin of 25-20.

On offense, it was the junior duo of Cate Rosenthal and Ellie Alfonso leading the team with 11 and nine kills. Freshman Ashlynn Stephens posted 10 kills herself, while sophomore Gabbi Phillips added another 30+ assist game recording 33 assists on the day.

Defensively, Kaitlyn Bassett took charge with a game-high five blocks, which was followed by Rosenthal's four blocks. Sofia Cendoya and Legacy Guider posted 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Petrels moved to 13-10 on the season with two more matches before beginning Southern Athletic Association play against the Sewanee Tigers in a quarterfinal matchup.
