ATLANTA – Malia Melton posted a career high 16 points while Morgan Skipper posted a career high eight rebounds, but Oglethorpe returned from the Christmas break with a loss to Salisbury, 64-54, on Thursday.
Oglethorpe used a 16-2 run in the third quarter to erase a 13-point deficit that was a 10-point deficit in the second half. Rose Dolmovich hit a big go-ahead 3-pointer on that run to follow back-to-back baskets by Melton that tied the game, but Salisbury went on a 20-6 run of its own in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Melton's 16 points, a new career high, helped her lead all scorers. Carly Henderson followed with 11, then Skipper and Gabby Hudson with six apiece. Dolmovich followed with five.
In the rebounding column, Skipper's eight rebounds featured seven on the defensive end, and she added an assist, a block and three steals. Emma Perna led the team with four assists.
