Women’s lacrosse stays on top with third straight win

ATLANTA - In their second home game of the season, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated Erskine College 22-8 to continue their winning streak. The Petrels are now 3-0.
 
The Petrels were led by Ally Moir, Makenna Bowens, and Kaitlynn Alford in this game. Moir totaled seven goals and four assists, while Bowens and Alford both scored five goals. Moir and Alford both took eight shots on goal. 
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Asia Williams had 14 saves.  
 
Oglethorpe kicked off the game with a goal from Makenna Bowens, assisted by Ally Moir, merely 30 seconds in. Although Erskine proceeded to take the lead with two back-to-back goals, the Petrels quickly pushed back ahead. The intense first quarter ended with Oglethorpe lengths ahead of Erskine at 8-2. 
 
The second quarter also saw Erskine fight to overtake the Petrels, but Oglethorpe never let them get close.
 
After halftime, the game slowed down as it was clear the Petrels already had another win under their belt. In the fourth quarter, Erskine scored only once as Oglethorpe scored twice to set the final score at 22-8.
 
Overall, the Stormy Petrels took 30 shots on goal, had 14 saves, forced 13 turnovers, scooped 32 ground balls, and went 7-of-7 on clears. The Petrels have continued with a winning streak, now being 3-0. Each of the three games has seen Oglethorpe end with a substantial lead.
 
The women's lacrosse team will hit the road for their next game, facing Brenau University on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 12 p.m.
