Petrels come up short against LaGrange

ATLANTA - Although it seemed the Stormy Petrels were back on their feet, Oglethorpe was brought down at home by the LaGrange College Panthers in a tough game with a final score of 13-9 Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Jazz Washington and Richard Bedgood IV led the team with three goals each, with Washington taking seven shots and Bedgood with 12. Carsen Van Note was 12-for-19 on faceoffs for the Petrels, and goalkeeper Addison Irwin had 20 saves.

Although the Panthers dominated the first quarter, Oglethorpe seemed to be moving into the lead in the second. The Petrels scored three goals in the quarter, and were able to tie the score at 2-2 then pulled off a short-lived lead.

LaGrange took over again in the third and fourth quarters, as Oglethorpe struggled to keep up with them. After a tough third quarter, Oglethorpe made a surge in the fourth, scoring three goals in less than four minutes, but that third goal would be Oglethorpe's last, as LaGrange maintained their lead to end the game at 13-9.

Overall, the Stormy Petrels took 23 shots on goal, forced 24 turnovers, went 17-for-25 on clears, scooped 27 ground balls, and won 16 faceoffs.

So far, the Petrels are 2-2 for the season. The next men's lacrosse game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at Brevard College.
