Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s lacrosse starts season with big win

ATLANTA - The Stormy Petrels nearly posted a shutout in their first game of the season, defeating the Owls of Warren Wilson College 27-1 Saturday evening.

Oglethorpe hit the ground running, with Richard Bedgood IV, assisted by Jazz Washington, scoring the first goal of the game just 30 seconds in. From then on, it was nonstop scoring for the Petrels. Juniors Bedgood and Washington continued to lead the game, with Bedgood totaling nine goals and two assists, and Washington with six each. Bedgood accounted for 21 of Oglethorpe's 58 shots on goal, and Washington 10.

Additionally, Max Brand and Carsen Van Note each scored four goals.

Goalkeeper Addison Irwin stopped all but one of Warren Wilson's shots, when the Owls scored their only goal late in the fourth quarter with just 4:51 on the clock.

Oglethorpe forced 23 Warren Wilson turnovers and scooped 52 ground balls, 20 of which were by Van Note. The Petrels also won 28 of 31 faceoffs.

This was Interim Head Coach Scott Dangel's first game leading Oglethorpe, and looks to be the start of a successful season for the Petrels.

Oglethorpe will hit the road for its next game, traveling to Bridgewater, Virginia, to face Bridgewater College on Friday, Feb 11, at 4 p.m.
