Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Underclassmen lead Petrels to success in first game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Oglethorpe women's lacrosse started the season off with a 17-11 win at Huntingdon College after staying in the lead for a majority of the game.

Underclassmen dominated in this game, as sophomores Sydney Trammell and Ally Moir led with four goals each. Trammell also had one assist. Additionally, freshman goalie Tori Perez accounted for 6 of Oglethorpe's 7 saves, and fellow freshman Makenna Bowens tallied three goals, including two in the first half.

Ally Moir scored the first goal of the game, and Oglethorpe did not look back. The Stormy Petrels stayed ahead nearly the rest of the game, except for when the Hawks tied the score at 6-6 at the end of the first half. Trammell's goal early in the third quarter pushed the Petrels back into the lead, which was held for the duration of the game. Oglethorpe scored seven times in the fourth quarter, compared to Huntingdon only scoring four.

Oglethorpe was able to scoop 42 ground balls, forced 23 turnovers, and was successful on 14 of 18 clears. The Petrels took 41 shots, towering over Huntingdon's 25 shots. Moir took 14 of Oglethorpe's shots on goal.

Oglethorpe will be at home for their next game, taking on Pfeiffer University on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. Afterward in another home game, the Petrels will face NCAA Division II Erskine College on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m.
