ATLANTA – The theme of late-inning scoring continued for Oglethorpe's baseball team in a 6-4 come-from-behind victory at Emory Saturday afternoon. The Stormy Petrels trailed 4-2 in the eighth and 4-3 in the ninth before rallying for the win.
Jonathan Cruz delivered in this one, singling to right field on a 2-2 count with the game tied 4-4 with two out in the top of the ninth. It scored Shota Barbeau and Harrison Hall shortly after Mason Pearcy came home to score on Rajan Sampat's RBI groundout. Pearcy started the rally with an infield hit on an 0-2 pitch to lead off the ninth.
Jake Hill threw four shutout innings in relief of starting pitcher Colby James to pick up the win and improve to 1-0. Hill struck out two and allowed only one hit and one walk while keeping the Eagles off the board from the sixth inning on. James allowed a run on one hit and two ground balls in the first inning then allowed the Eagles to score in only one other inning, a three-run fourth.
Oglethorpe and Emory will finish the series with a doubleheader at Hermance Stadium Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
