Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball falls to Emory twice to wrap series

ATLANTA – Late scoring in game one and early scoring in game two doomed Oglethorpe's baseball team to a doubleheader sweep by the hands of Emory Sunday afternoon at Hermance Stadium. Oglethorpe lost game one 13-6 and game two 4-0.

The two losses saw the Stormy Petrels lose the series to the neighboring Eagles two games to one. This came in spite of a stellar relief effort from Noah Cole and Andrew Noack in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader. Cole went three scoreless innings on two hits and a walk across the second, third and fourth innings, before Noack did one better by retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced, only allowing one runner to reach via error, across the fifth, sixth and seventh.

Emory, however, already had a 4-0 lead by that point, and it was all the scoring the Eagles would need to seal the game-two win.

Game one featured a little more back and forth. After the Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, Carter Guarino got the Petrel scoring going in the bottom half before Carson Weir singled home Will Arnold, then Noack drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 3-3.

Emory took the lead again in the top of the fourth and expanded the lead with four runs in the fifth. By then, a Pearcy RBI single and sacrifice flyouts from Noack and Jonathan Cruz would not be enough.

Up next, Oglethorpe travels to Huntingdon on Tuesday, March 22, for a midweek nonconference game and will be on the road again over the weekend, facing Hendrix in a three-game Southern Athletic Association set.
