Baseball wins series against No. 25 Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – Will Arnold provided the go-ahead RBI in the sixth inning, and Oglethorpe topped No. 25 Hendrix 5-4 Sunday afternoon in a rubber game that saw the Stormy Petrels win the Southern Athletic Association series.

Colin Stewart, Grant Guinther and Will Marconi combined for sixth shutout innings from the fourth inning on as Oglethorpe overcame a 4-3 deficit with a run in the fifth and one more in the sixth. The victory marked the Petrels' second series win of the year through the first three series.

Arnold's double in the sixth broke the last tie of 4-4 and brought home Andrew Noack. It also followed a two-run homer from Arnold four innings earlier which gave the Petrels a 3-1 lead. After that, the Warriors chipped their way back into the lead with a three-run third only to be held scoreless the rest of the way. Shota Barbeau had the game-tying RBI in the fifth with a single up the middle, scoring Jonathan Cruz.

Four Petrels earned multiple hits, led by Barbeau with a 3-for-5 effort. Arnold went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI's from the leadoff spot, and Carson Weir and Noack both tallied two hits.

Stewart picked up the win with a three-inning scoreless relief effort before Guinther went two scoreless in the seventh and eighth, and Marconi earned the save with a perfect ninth.

Up next, Oglethorpe faces LaGrange in a midweek nonconference game Tuesday on the road before returning home to Hermance Stadium next weekend for a three-game SAA set against Millsaps.
