Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Overtime sees men’s lacrosse fall to Methodist

ATLANTA - After a hard fought game that seemed to be in Oglethorpe's favor, Methodist University seized the 13-12 win after the game moved into overtime.

Oglethorpe was led by Richard Bedgood IV as he scored four goals, and goalie Addison Irwin with 22 saves.

After going back and forth in the first quarter, the Stormy Petrels pulled ahead with two goals to set the score at 6-4. The second quarter was an aggressive battle, as Oglethorpe scored three goals and kept the Monarchs from scoring a single goal.

After halftime, with Oglethorpe in the lead at 9-4, Methodist began to make a comeback. Throughout the fourth quarter, Oglethorpe held a decent lead until the very end. Methodist scored three goals in the last minute and a half of the game, jumping from nine to 12 goals.

Tensions were high as overtime began, and although the Petrels won the face-off to begin the overtime period, Methodist swiftly shifted the balance to their favor, and scored to win. The narrow 13-12 defeat puts the Petrels at 3-4 for the season so far.

Overall, the Stormy Petrels won 20 face-offs, forced 23 turnovers, scooped 39 ground balls, and went 6-6 on clears.

Oglethorpe will remain at home for their next game, facing Marian University on Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m.
