Petrels shake up Marian Sabres

ATLANTA - After a rough first half of the game, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels claimed another victory with a 15-11 win against the Sabres of Marian University.

Juniors Jazz Washington and Richard Bedgood IV led the team with four and six goals respectively. Washington also totaled five assists. Goalie Addison Irwin made 11 saves.

The Stormy Petrels had a tough start, as the first half went in Marian's favor. Oglethorpe was able to tie the score on four separate occasions, just for Marian to pull right back ahead. The Sabres made a goal in the final 50 seconds of the second quarter, setting the Petrels behind at 8-7 as the game headed into halftime.

Marian continued to dominate, until the latter half of the third quarter. Oglethorpe scored five times uninterrupted in the last six minutes, the final two of which were made by Bedgood and Washington nearly back-to-back in the final 30 seconds. This rally continued into the fourth quarter, as the Stormy Petrels made three more goals. Oglethorpe held a five point lead for the final few minutes of the game, until Marian scored with 25 seconds on the clock. But the Petrels were already out of their reach, as the final goal set the score at 15-11.

Overall, the Petrels forced 25 turnovers, had 16 successful clears, scooped 36 ground balls, and won 18 face-offs. Oglethorpe is now 4-4 for the season so far.

The Stormy Petrels will remain home for their next game, facing Averett University on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m.
