Petrels conquer Berry Vikings

ATLANTA - After keeping the lead for the entire game, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels took down the Berry Vikings 16-13 in the last Southern Athletic Association game of the regular season. 

Nine Petrels made their way into the scoring column this game, led by Ally Moir with four goals. Kendall White, Makenna Bowens, Sydney Trammell, and Kaitlynn Alford all made two goals. Additionally, goalie Tori Perez made a season high of 11 saves.

Oglethorpe started the game out strong, scoring three goals in the first quarter and keeping Berry from making any. The Petrels made two more goals in the second quarter before the Vikings scored. Oglethorpe and Berry went back and forth scoring until halftime, as the Petrels ended the second quarter on top 7-4.
 
After halftime, the Vikings and the Stormy Petrels went back and forth again, until the Petrels scored two goals in a row to stay on top at 11-6. The same trend continued in the fourth quarter, until Berry scored the final goal of the game with three minutes still remaining. But that final goal was not enough to reach the Petrels, who ended the game with a 16-13 win. 

Overall, the Petrels forced 21 turnovers, went 14-18 on clears, took 22 shots on goal, scooped 27 ground balls, won 14 draw-controls, and took seven free position shots. 

Game Notes:
  • Oglethorpe is now 3-3 in conference, and 10-4 overall. 
  • Berry is now 2-3 in conference, and 9-4 overall.
  • Oglethorpe is currently ranked third in the SAA, and Berry is ranked fourth. 
  • Samanda Cox scored her second goal of the season.
  • Trammell scored her 30th goal of the season.

Up Next: 
The Stormy Petrels will have their final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. against University of Dallas. This game will be the women's lacrosse senior day. The SAA tournament will begin Friday, April 22, with times, locations, and matchups to be determined.
