Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s lacrosse comes out on top after cutting it close

BIRMINGHAM – After holding the lead for the entire game, the Stormy Petrels nearly dropped the ball against the Birmingham Southern Panthers in a game that ended at a nail-biting 20-19.

The Stormy Petrels were led by Ally Moir scoring eight goals, and Kaitlynn Alford with four goals. Additionally, goalie Asia Williams made nine saves. Oglethorpe started off the game strong with a goal from Moir less than 40 seconds in. Throughout the first quarter, the Stormy Petrels built up a lead that would carry for the rest of the game.
Starting the second quarter at 5-2, Oglethorpe made five more goals before allowing the Panthers to only squeak in three. The Petrels headed into halftime with a great lead of 12-5.

The third and fourth quarters saw Birmingham Southern close the gap, but never quite topple the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe was only able to make one goal in the fourth quarter, which started at 19-9, as the Panthers made 10 goals in the quarter. But the Petrels had already amassed such a lead in the third quarter, that Oglethorpe was able to claim victory with a final score of 20-19.

Overall, the Petrels took 34 shots, caused 35 turnovers, went 17-for-33 on clears, and scooped 29 ground balls.
