Stormy Petrels overwhelm Owls

ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels dominated against the Warren Wilson College Owls Thursday evening with a final score of 24-2. 

Ten Petrels made their way into the scoring column, as Ally Moir and Sydney Trammell led the Petrels with five goals each, followed by Kendall White with four, and Makenna Bowens with three. This game marked season high scoring for White and Trammell, as India Martin, Samanda Cox and Emilee Heffner scored their first goals of the season. Moir and Taty Harris made season high assists, with five and two respectively. 

Oglethorpe hit the ground running in the first quarter, thanks to a goal from Kendall White just 30 seconds into the game. Warren Wilson was able to squeak in one goal in the first half, early in the first quarter, but the Petrels went into halftime up 16-1.

The Petrels made four more unchallenged goals, until the Owls made their second and final goal of the game late in the third quarter. Oglethorpe picked their streak back up in the fourth quarter, scoring four more goals to end the game at 24-2. 

Overall, the Petrels took 37 shots on goal, caused 17 turnovers, went 11-for-14 on clears, scooped 29 ground balls and won 15 draw controls.

  • Oglethorpe is now 9-3 overall.
  • Combined, the Petrels have now scored over 200 goals this season.
  • This is the first time the women's lacrosse team has faced Warren Wilson, which is in its second season of collegiate competition.
  • The Petrels are now 5-1 for home games.

Oglethorpe will be back to Southern Athletic Association play as they head to Rhodes on Saturday, April 9, for a 1 p.m. game. The Stormy Petrels will return home and take on Berry College on Tuesday, April 12, at 6 p.m.
