ATLANTA - The Stormy Petrels put on a show for their fans with some blistering nonconference action Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 win over Greensboro.
Javier Aponte scored the game winning goal in the fourth minute after a brilliant run from Carlos Cavallo to send in a cross that Greensboro goalkeeper Bello Borges could not handle. It was Aponte's third goal of the season. The second goal would come just within a minute after the first, as Ben Alram sent in a cross off a corner kick in the fifth minute that found Dylan Bapst who was able to head it into the back of the net. It was Bapst's first goal of the season.
The final goal of the first half came from Ethan Nunes as he was able to dribble past Borges and find the back of the net. It all started thanks to a beautiful ball from Oglethorpe goalkeeper Ethan Harrison that found the feet of Nunes as he scored his second goal of the season.
Felipe Araujo rounded out the scoring in the 57th minute. He put the ball past Christian Po, Greensboro's goalkeeper for the second half. This one all started from a shot from Sebastian Molina that was saved by Po, but Araujo put in the rebound. This was Araujo's first goal of the season.Â
It was a dominating performance from Head Coach Jon Akin's side. A great performance offensively and defensively. The Stormy Petrels improved to 2-1-1 on the year with a second straight clean sheet win. They have now scored seven goals in their last two games. The team added one more goal-scorer to their goal-scoring list this season as Araujo scored for the first time this season. Oglethorpe has nine goals on the year coming from six players. Aponte leads the team with three goals.Â
