Alram, Aponte, Farquhar, Petrels conquer Whitworth

ATLANTA - It was back-to-back wins at home for the Stormy Petrels as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Whitworth University in a Sunday matinee matchup.

Oglethorpe started fast as Ben Alram scored the winning goal in the fifth minute after a great cross from Dylan Bapst. It was the sophomore's first goal of the season. The Petrels did not take long to find a second goal. Jake Locklear played a beautiful ball over the top to find Javier Aponte, who scored with a composed finish in the seventh minute. This was Aponte's fourth goal of the season.

The final goal of the match did not come until later in the first half. Felipe Araujo made a good run and cut the ball across to find Ian Farquhar who slotted it into the back of the net in the 31st minute. It was Farquhar's first goal of the season.

This was a good way to end a three-game homestretch for Head Coach Jon Akin's side, who improved to 3-1-1 on the year with their third straight win and third straight shutout. Oglethorpe now has 12 goals on the year coming from eight players. There were some excellent performances out there on the field. Ethan Harrison came up big with six saves on the day against Whitworth. Javier Aponte cannot seem to stop scoring goals with four goals in five games. Dylan Bapst also continued his good form; he scored a goal on Saturday against Greensboro and added an assist against Whitworth.

  • This marked Oglethorpe's third straight shutout of the season

  • Oglethorpe outshot Whitworth 14-10 and 7-6 on shots on goal
