LEXINGTON, Va. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels' three-game unbeaten streak ended on Friday night as they lost 4-0 at No. 13 Washington and Lee.
It would not be an ideal start for Jon Akin's side as Washington and Lee's Park Bruner scored in the first minute to give the Generals the lead. Oglethorpe held on for the next 15 minutes until Matteo Adler scored in the 16th minute to double the lead for WLU.
The Petrels did everything they could to bring some life back for them into the match as Ben Alram took a shot that was blocked in the 19th minute, and Ian Farquhar tried to take a shot at goal in the 38th minute. However, WLU's Patrick Rooney would score just 20 seconds later. This left Oglethorpe down 3-0 with just seven minutes of the first half left to play.
The second half was a better performance from the Stormy Petrels as they were able to test WLU goalkeeper Will Joseph more. Leading goal-scorer Javier Aponte had a chance at goal as he took a good shot from a tight angle that went just over the bar. Alram took a shot at goal in the 66th minute. Ethan Nunes took a low left shot in the 78th minute that was also saved by Joseph.
Oglethorpe was able to concede no goals for a while in the second half until Patrick Rooney scored again in the 80th minute to ultimately hand Oglethorpe their second loss of the season.
