Petrels prevail in exhibition against Oxford of Emory

ATLANTA - In an exhibition match against Oxford College of Emory University Tuesday night, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels shut out the Eagles 2-0. 

Taylor Whiteside scored the first goal of the game early on in the first half. This would be the only goal of the first period, as the Petrels and the Eagles battled for dominance of the field until halftime. 

Kirsten Brown scored the second and final goal of the game 15 minutes into the second period. She was assisted by freshman Harlow Cregar. 

Match notes:
  • Oglethorpe took 20 shots overall, and Oxford of Emory took two. 
  • Freshmen Katherine Crim and Kate Parker made their debut on the home turf.
  • Sophomore Amaya Johnson made her season debut.
  • Because the match was an exhibition, statistics from this game will not count toward any player or team statistics. 
Up next:
The Petrels will travel to Wesleyan College on Wednesday, Sept. 21, for a 7:30 p.m. match. Afterward, Oglethorpe will take on their Southern Athletic Association opener at No. 14 Centre College on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. The next home game will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. against Bob Jones University.
