Petrels tame Wolves in shutout game at Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels dominated in a shutout game against the Wesleyan College Wolves, with a final score of 5-0 Wednesday night.

Junior Taylor Whiteside made Oglethorpe's first goal five minutes into the game, and was assisted by Nikki Wells. Five minutes later, Devyn Canty took a shot that resulted in a Wesleyan own goal to put the Petrels up 2-0. The final goal of  the first period came from sophomore Safiya Said, who was assisted by fellow sophomore Jade Anderson.

The Wolves struggled against the Petrels for the last 15 minutes of the half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Oglethorpe headed into halftime with the clear upper hand, as Wesleyan had no shots and no goals on the scoreboard.

Oglethorpe took the reins once again in the second half, taking three shots within 60 seconds at the 52nd minute. The next score for the Petrels did not come until 20 minutes into the period, as freshman Harlow Cregar's corner kick ricocheted off the back post and resulted in another goal for Oglethorpe.

The Petrels and the Wolves continued to battle for the remainder of the game, with the last five minutes filled with tension. Wesleyan finally found an opportunity to take their one and only shot of the game, which was saved by Haley Lowell. The Petrels immediately turned as Katherine Crim assisted Canty with Oglethorpe's final goal, ending the match at 5-0.
