ROME, Ga. — Oglethorpe made the trip back to Berry College, after competing in the Berry National Invitational this past weekend, for the Southern Athletic Association opener against the No. 12 Vikings. After a stormy first set, the Petrels and Vikings battled through three more competitive sets, Berry ultimately winning the match 3-1.
The first set went to Berry 25-10, while the second set was an intense 25-22 win in Berry's favor. With Berry up two sets to none, the Stormy Petrels brought the thunder winning 25-21, but the Vikings went on to win the fourth set 25-23. After such an action-packed first outing, Oglethorpe looks forward to host Berry in Dorough Field House Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Oglethorpe's Jackie Schner totaled 20 kills in the match, while juniors Cate Rosenthal and Ellie Alfonso added 10 and 13 kills apiece. Sophomore Gabbi Phillips ended the outing with 39 assists. On the defensive side of the net, Alfonso recorded 17 digs. Schner and Sophia St. Clair followed with 11 digs of their own, and Phillips and Rosenthal each added 10 digs.

Oglethorpe is set to make the road trip to Danville, Kentucky, this weekend, making a pit stop in Sewanee, Tennessee, on the way back. Oglethorpe takes on the Centre College Colonels Saturday, Sept. 17, at 12 p.m., and stops in Tennessee Sunday, Sept. 18, to face the Sewanee Tigers.
