SEWANEE, Tenn.— The Stormy Petrels moved back in the win column after a 3-1 victory over the Sewanee University Tigers on Sunday. This marked Oglethorpe's first Southern Athletic Association win this season, as the Petrels are now 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in SAA play.
The Petrels came out firing with a convincing 25-16 win over the Tigers in the first set. Sewanee responded with a 25-23 second set narrowly escaping the Petrels. This second set would be their only win on the day. The third and fourth sets went to Oglethorpe by a margin of 25-21 followed by 25-15.
On the offensive side of the net, it was senior Jackie Schner and juniors Cate Rosenthal and Ellie Alfonso leading the way. Schner recorded 13 kills while Rosenthal added 12 and Alfonso with an additional eight. Schner also led the Petrels with four service aces while Gabbi Phillips recorded three service aces and Alfonso added two of her own. Phillips also totaled 29 assists.
Defensively, Alfonso and Phillips recorded 21 and 14 digs each, while junior Sofia Cendoya followed with 13 digs herself.

After a road trip to Kentucky and Tennessee, the Petrels return to Dorough Field House to host Birmingham Southern College and Millsaps University. Oglethorpe faces Birmingham Southern Saturday, Sept. 24, at 12 p.m., followed by a match against Millsaps Sunday, Sept. 25, at 12 p.m.
