Petrels fall to last-minute goal from Bob Jones

ATLANTA - After a long scoreless battle, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels ultimately fell to Bob Jones University 1-0 Tuesday evening after the Bruins were able to secure a goal late in the second half.

The first period saw a lot of back and forth, as the Petrels and the Bruins battled for a chance at scoring a goal. Oglethorpe's first good opportunity for a goal came 20 minutes into the game, but Mackenzie Jones' shot was saved by Bob Jones goalkeeper Rebekah Shoop. The Petrels were able to take two more shots before the last 15 minutes, as Kirsten Brown and Devyn Canty's attempts were also saved by Shoop. Bob Jones was able to take 10 shots on goal during the first half, with goalkeeper Haley Lowell saving all four on goal.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, as the match seemed to lean toward a scoreless draw. Brown was able to take two more shots, and Canty another, but all three were wide. The Bruins, meanwhile, gave Lowell a run for her money, as they took 18 shots in the second half alone. Lowell was able to make strong saves for each shot that approached her, until the last four minutes of the game. Bob Jones scored the first and only goal with 3:57 left on the clock to end the game at 1-0.
