Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Robbie Coull

Women’s basketball comes up just short on the road

JACKSON, Miss.— In the last contest of their Southern Athletic Association doubleheader weekend road trip, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell to the Majors of Millsaps College 63-54. After winning three consecutive home games in December, the Petrels have faced some stormy competition in their last three affairs and look to get back into the win column on Wednesday as they host their first of another strand of three home games.

The first quarter of action featured a 10-9 outcome with the Majors leading by one heading into the second. After a 19-14 performance in the second quarter, the Petrels faced a six-point deficit as the first half came to a close with Millsaps leading 29-23. Both teams stayed consistent in the third quarter with almost identical scoring lines, this time the petrels scoring 13 to the Majors 19.

Millsaps led 48-36 heading into the final quarter. In that quarter, the Petrels outscored the Majors 18-15, but it was not enough in the end as the Majors won 63-54.

Picking up right where she left off on Friday, freshman forward Keimarya Rivera dropped 19 points and 11 rebounds along with two blocks for her second double-double of the season. Another freshman consistently making an impact on the court, Malia Melton, followed Rivera with 12 points of her own while also totaling six rebounds herself.

Redshirt sophomore and hometown product of Atlanta Olivia Tucker posted career highs with seven points and five rebounds on 22 minutes of playing time in today's contest.

Game Notes

  • The Petrels moved to 5-7 on the season.
  • Oglethorpe has 12 games left in the regular season.
  • This was Rivera's second double-double of the season.
