Men’s soccer sets record with ninth shutout at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark.—On Sunday afternoon, the Oglethorpe men's soccer program thrashed Hendrix in a 3-0 victory on the road. It was a special day for Jon Akin's side as the Stormy Petrels broke the school record for team shutouts in a season with their ninth shutout.

Nicolas Mejia continued to show why he is one of the Stormy Petrels' best new recruits this season. The freshman goalkeeper now has nine shutouts, extending his individual shutout record. However, it is not only Mejia that has led the team to be a strong defensive unit. Carlos Cavallaro, Daniel Amah, Luke Ferrari, Dylan Bapst, Jake Locklear, and Javier Martinez have been integral to the success of the defense as they have prevented opposing offenses from getting good chances on goal.

The team would hit the ground running early as Adrian Levy scored a thumping header in the eighth minute after a great cross from Cavallaro. It was Levy's fifth goal of the season and Cavallaro's first assist of the season.

Seventeen minutes later, JR Cozine's curling shot past the Hendrix goalkeeper doubled the lead for Oglethorpe. Ben Alram had the assist. It was Cozine's fourth goal of the season and Alram's sixth assist of the season. In the 43rd minute, Christian Medina scored to round out the scoring.  Cozine had the assist. It was Medina's fifth goal of the season and Cozine's ninth assist of the season.

It was a great performance for the men in black and yellow. Akin will be pleased with his team's response after they suffered their first loss in the Southern Athletic Association on Friday at Rhodes.
