Rhodes spoils volleyball senior day

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels celebrated senior day and their last home match of the season Sunday in Dorough Field House but fell 3-0 to the Rhodes Lynx.

Before the match began, Oglethorpe honored seven graduates; Ellie Alfonso, Kaitlyn Bassett, Sofia Cendoya, Maddie Drawdy, Cate Rosenthal, Anna Pinneau and Kylee Zimmer. Each received flowers and a framed jersey.

Rosenthal led the team with 11 kills and one service ace. Briella Kohler recorded 15 digs and six kills while Autumn Lilly made 19 assists and Bassett had four blocks.

Rhodes opened the first by earning three points, but the Petrels quickly caught back up. Oglethorpe took a 10-9 lead, and the Lynx seemed to be at a disadvantage. The lead went back and forth with only a one-point difference, but eventually the Lynx moved to 20-18. This two-point lead spiraled into a streak of points, and Rhodes won the set 25-18.

Oglethorpe earned the first point of the second set, and even climbed to an 8-4 lead. Just like the first set, the two teams went back and forth with a one-point lead. The Petrels put up a good fight, but once again, Rhodes managed to pull away at the end and claimed a 25-22 victory.

Kohler opened the third and final set with a kill, but the Lynx had already run the Petrels out of gas. This set ended close similar to the second set, with Rhodes winning 25-21.
