Petrels win at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels recorded a decisive 3-0 win against the Piedmont Lions Wednesday evening as the end of the season draws near.

Cate Rosenthal led with nine kills. Sofia Cendoya recorded 10 digs, followed by Gabbi Phillips and Hannah Palmer with nine each. Phillips also recorded 13 assists and two service aces, while Autumn Lilly tallied three aces.

Piedmont earned the first three points of the game, but Oglethorpe quickly overtook the Lions. Once the Petrels reached a 16-9 lead, victory was imminent. After a kill from Kaitlyn Bassett and an attack error from the Lions, Oglethorpe won the first set 25-19.

Oglethorpe flipped the script and earned the first three points of the second set, and quickly gained a 10-3 lead. Piedmont was unable to catch up, and a kill from Briella Kohler cemented a hefty 25-15 win.

The Lions managed to regain some of their footing in the third and final set, but Oglethorpe was prepared. Piedmont held the lead twice in the set, both early in the single digits. Once Oglethorpe caught up, a brief battle of back-and-forth resulted in Oglethorpe out front 8-7. The Petrels continued to strengthen their lead and won the set 25-20 after a kill by Rosenthal.
