Volleyball earns sweep at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated the Hendrix Warriors 3-0, marking their third Southern Athletic Association victory Sunday afternoon on the road.

Briella Kohler led with 12 kills while Ellie Alfonso and Cate Rosenthal both recorded nine. Sofia Cendoya tallied 21 digs, followed by Alfonso with 16. Alfonso also had two service aces.

The first set began with a service ace from Autumn Lilly and a kill from Camdyn George. The Warriors were nearly an even match for the Petrels, with the lead passing back and forth. A kill from Kohler got Oglethorpe to match point, then Hendrix earned another point, but another kill by Kohler gave Oglethorpe the 25-22 win.

Hendrix was the first to earn a point in the second set, but Oglethorpe followed up with five consecutive points. Just like the first set, the lead was handed back and forth. The Petrels were able to gain a small lead toward the end, and a kill from Rosenthal cemented a 25-21 victory.

Oglethorpe earned the first point of the third and final set, and the Warriors followed close behind. The Petrels remained resilient, and a kill from Ashlynn Stephens got the Petrels to set point while the Warriors still sat at 21 points. Hendrix gained one more point, but a kill from Kaitlynn Bassett finalized Oglethorpe's 25-22 win for the set, and a sweep for the match.
