SALEM, Ore. -- Perry Robinson led with 23 points and nine rebounds, and the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels placed 11 in the scoring column Saturday night but fell 89-76 to the Willamette Bobcats.
Robinson was followed by Dylan Pumpian with 13 points and three steals. Uba Ezigbo and Mason Kemp both recorded eight points and six rebounds.
"We had a Jekyll and Hyde weekend," Head Coach Philip Ponder said after the game. "We just never got into a flow offensively tonight, and we couldn't get stops defensively. This weekend showed the potential that we have, but also showed we still have a lot of work to do. It's early, and we'll get better."
Robinson earned the first two points of the game from free throws, but the Bobcats were able to respond and even briefly take the lead. Most of the first half was neck-and-neck, with Willamette only pulling away toward the end of the period. The Petrels headed into halftime trailing 44-39.Â
The second half was an uphill battle for the Petrels as the Bobcats continued to pull ahead. Early baskets from Ezigbo, Robinson and M. Kemp brought the Petrels within reach of overtaking Willamette at 50-45, but the Bobcats managed an 11-point run to put the game away. The Petrels earned the final points in the game from Tyler O'Donoghue but ultimately fell 89-76 to the Bobcats.
