DANVILLE, Ky.—Oglethorpe senior Carley Bell scored a career-high 19 points, and the Stormy Petrels made easy work of their opening game at the Lee's Famous Recipe / Hampton Inn Classic Friday evening, topping Warren Wilson 88-65.
Bell went 7-of-16 from the field and 3-for-7 from 3-point range. She added six rebounds and two steals. Bell was the first of 14 Petrels in the scoring column. Next came Jessamy Gaetanos with 10 points and four rebounds, then Alli White with nine points and Malia Melton with eight.
"It was great to see everyone in the scoring column in a solid team win," said Head Coach Alex Richey. "We are seeing some good things from this group, but there is plenty of learning and growth opportunities that we can take from each time we are on the court together. That's where our focus will continue to be."
Warren Wilson had only one lead, at 2-0, before the Petrels stormed ahead with a 17-0 run highlighted by back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers from Mia Geveke, Allison Hoffmann and Gaetanos midway through the first quarter. There was little trouble from there as Oglethorpe (3-1) extended the lead to as many as 30 in the second quarter and 36 in the second half.
Game Notes
- All 14 Petrels who entered the game entered the scoring column.
- Ellie Cook and Karina Lopez both had seven rebounds to lead Oglethorpe.
