ATLANTA—Keimarya Rivera, Jessamy Gaetanos and Allison Hoffmann combined for 47 points, and the Oglethorpe women's basketball team topped Huntingdon 70-64 Saturday afternoon. The Stormy Petrels weathered a couple of late runs to prevail in their first game of the 2023 TownePlace Suites Classic.

Oglethorpe took its largest lead of 14 late in the first quarter, but Huntingdon hung tough to keep it a four-point game at the halftime break. This narrowed to one point in the third quarter before a 7-0 Oglethorpe run, then again dropped to one in the fourth quarter before Oglethorpe put the final nail on the coffin with a 9-3 run highlighted by a Gaetanos 3-pointer at the four-minute mark.

Rivera and Gaetanos led the Petrels with 16 points apiece, followed closely by Hoffmann with 15. Rivera added 16 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals.

Kat Johnson and Briley Elder had great games. Johnson had eight points and three rebounds to go along with four assists, two blocks and two steals while Elder had seven points and seven rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals.

Game Notes

• Gaetanos and Hoffmann both hit career highs for scoring.
• Rivera matched her career high for rebounding while Elder tallied a new career high for rebounding.
• Nine Petrels entered the scoring column and 10 entered the rebounding column.
• The double-double for Rivera was her third of the season and ninth of her career.
• Oglethorpe improved to 5-4 in the all-time series against Huntingdon. The series started in 2005.
