SEWANEE, Tenn.— Selfless, full-team efforts, have been the name of Oglethorpe's women's basketball game recently as Keimarya Rivera, Morgan Skipper, and Olivia Tucker all dropped double-digits in the scoring column to defeat the Tigers of Sewanee 64-48. This was the Petrels' second victory over the Tigers this season moving them to 11-1 against Sewanee since 2017.Â
Rivera once again led the Petrels' offensive efforts with 17 points shooting 8-11 from the field. The freshman out of Canton, Georgia, also managed to pull in six rebounds while adding two steals on the defensive side of the ball.
Tucker, the local redshirt sophomore from Atlanta, followed with 12 points, four assists, two steals and led the team in minutes on the court totaling 36— her fifth 10+ scoring performance out of her last 11 games.Â
Two other freshmen both made an impact in the victory. Skipper added 10 points and six rebounds, while Gabby Hudson was an all-out force on the defensive glass totaling 10 defensive rebounds and one offensive for 11 total rebounds on the night— good for a new career high.
The Petrels beat the Tigers in almost every category in the book from shooting percentage to steals and everything in between. Oglethorpe's largest lead over the Tigers was a staggering 22 points as the Petrels held the lead for 90% of the contest.
With this win, Oglethorpe is back to above .500 sitting at 12-11 heading into their final game of the regular season next week. They also move into a tie for the fifth seed in Southern Athletic Association standings with a conference record of 6-7.Â
