White scores game-winner in final seconds

SEWANEE, Tenn.— Oglethorpe senior Kendall White came through in clutch time as she scored her fourth goal of the season with seven seconds remaining to secure a 16-15 win over Wisconsin – River Falls. The game was played at a neutral site at Sewanee, where Oglethorpe overcame a 14-12 deficit in the fourth quarter, scoring twice in the final minute to win. 

Both teams traded goals in pairs of two and three throughout the entire contest. Oglethorpe recorded two 3-0 scoring runs and finished the game on a 4-1 run.

Freshman Anna Ramsden scored the game-tying goal with less than one minute left and led with a game and career-high five ground balls. She was followed by Kaitlynn Alford and Sydney Trammell who registered four ground balls and two caused turnovers each. Seven Petrels recorded caused turnovers for a total of 11 on the day. It was an all-out team effort on the offensive side of the ball as nine petrels recorded ground balls.

With this win, Oglethorpe advanced to 3-1 on the year and is averaging 17.5 goals per game while allowing 11.3. Moir and White lead Oglethorpe with 14 goals apiece. Moir sits at 19 points on the season shooting 100% for shots on goal. The Petrels recorded season highs in saves with nine, ground balls with 22, and clears with 19.

Game Notes

  • White and Ramsden both recorded four goals again.
  • The last time they combined for eight points was in the early season 20-9 win over Pfeiffer. 
  • Junior duo Moir and Alford combined for another seven points in the contest.
  • Moir totaled three goals and one assist while Alford tallied two goals and two assists. 
  • This marked the first time Oglethorpe faced Wisconsin – River Falls in its history.
  • Sophomore goalie Tori Perez registered nine saves and picked up the win to improve to 3-1.
